“The Fall”: Chapter Four
Week. 4
You Will Not Be Disrespectful
Michael I'm not going to tell you again, get up for church.” His mother heard him talking back saying he didn't want to go to church. Issac was already getting ready for church and singing along to the gospel songs being played. Michael's attitude got even worse when he saw his mother pick out clothes for them to match. That's one thing Michael really hated, he was an individual, a future king. Michael's parents heard him complaining about his clothes.
He heard his father say, “Michael you're getting really close.” Everyone in the house knew what that meant. When he walked past his parents room Michael heard his parents talking, “His attitude has been going on all week, I got phone calls from his teacher.”
Michael's mother said, “This might be my fault. Last Sunday he told me that they learned the story of David and I told him his bloodline comes from kings.”
“I don't care if your bloodline comes from kings that don't give him a reason to be disrespectful. Let's go.”
It was a long ride to church
Michael was in the back seat quiet
His parents were talking.
Looking out the window, watching cars and trees pass by was very peaceful and soothing. Always relaxing listening to gospel music. Bebe and Cece were playing. Michael began yelling at his brother, “Keep your toys on your side.”
His little brother didn't know what to say
All he wanted to do was play.
They both heard their father say,
“Michael! I'm tired of your attitude that we've been dealing with all week.”
Michael didn't say anything
Then he heard his dad yell, “Boy did you hear what I said?”
“Yes sir.”
“Your attitude will stop at this moment, you understand?”
“Yes sir.”
“Let me hear one more thing, I mean it, you have one more time.”
“Yes sir.”
Issac again began playing with toys.
Addictive love started playing.
Michael didn't say a word the whole ride to church.
Sunday school wasn't any easier
He kept disrupting the teacher.
Every couple minutes she had to tell Michael to calm down, or be quiet.
It didn’t seem like he was even trying.
He was excited when the class was over.
Running out the room to find his mother before she could talk to his Sunday school teacher.
When he found her, Michael asked if his friends could sit with them. She told her son it was fine. The whole congregation could hear Michael playing with his friends. It was Michael's voice they heard playing tic-tac-toe, passing notes and not paying attention to the word. At different times Michael would look around the church to see if he could see the girl. Her family didn't come to church. In a way he felt hurt, still wanting to know her answer.
The service was almost over
Asking his mother if David and Brandon could come over. Michael's mother told him she would talk to his father after church. The boys were excited that they might come over.
Members getting prayed for.
Issac was even playing with his brother and friends. His parents talked about the kids coming over. They talked to their parents and it was agreed.
All the kids went to play outside, waiting to finally leave the church.
Michael looked at his friends and told them he comes from kings. David and Brandon couldn't believe it. That's when his parents came out of the church ready to leave. When they got home, the kids were ready to play. Toys were brought out, Issac was with them. Michael heard his father call him upstairs. Leaving his friends, he went into their room. Both his parents were there, with a belt on the bed.
“Your Sunday school teacher told us you were a problem. Didn't I say, if I heard one more thing?”
Michael said, “Yes sir.”
Grabbing the belt, his father said, “ I'm going to teach you not to be disrespectful.”
Everyone heard Michael crying and the smacking of the belt, he was learning his lesson. Seemed like a lifetime. Finally coming downstairs, his friends looked shocked. Asking Michael if he was okay. With tears in his eyes, he nodded yes.
