“The Fall”: Chapter Three

Week. 3

Sunday School

“In Sunday school we're going to learn about the story of David. Does anybody know the story of David?”

A couple of kids raised their hands.

One of the girl's in the class responded, “He was a king.”

The teacher told her she was correct.

Then the teacher pulled out her bible study book. Reading to the class.

“He was a small shepard, tending to the sheep. His father gave this responsibility to him. Fighting lions and bears because every sheep David cared for. His father asked him to take some food to his brothers, who was in battle for King Saul.

David left his sheep, so his brothers could eat. When he got to the battle, all heard this giant defying God. David couldn't believe what this giant had said.

He's been taunting the Israelites for forty days. Feeling an anger, David knew this giant must pay. His older brothers saw David talking to the soldiers. The older brother asked David why he came over, asking who was tending the sheep. David let him know he came with something to eat.

“Why are you so concerned? You just wanted to come and see the battle.”

David dismissed his brother asking others who would do something about this giant defying God. All were terrified of this giant. The king asked to speak to the young boy.

He looked at David as a young man.

“You are too young to fight.”

David let him know, he was a shepherd who fought lions and bears. The same God who delivered him from the bears and lions will do the same thing with this oversized giant. King Saul couldn’t believe what he heard saying, “May God be with you.” Sending him with armor, shield and helmet. David wasn't used to all these things. Taking them off, only caring a sling.

Selecting five stones from the stream, walking towards the giant.

This giant saw he was just a young boy.

Laughing at Israel, “You bring a boy to fight Goliath. I will feed his body to the birds.” David let him know it was him who was going to be slain in God's name.

Goliath was furious walking towards David. Going into his pouch, he placed a stone in his sling and flung it into his forehead, sinking in, the giant was dead. David used Goliath's own sword and cut off his head. Everyone and the king was excited for David's victory over the Philistines.”

Putting down the study book asking the class what did everyone learn.

Brandon answered the teacher,

“If you fight for God you will win.”

A girl in the class answered,

“Sometimes the unexpected can win battles.” Our Sunday school teacher nodded in agreement to the children.

“David was an important figure in the bible, we will learn more about this man. I can't wait to see yall next week.”

All the kids ran out of the classroom looking for their parents. Michael wanted to find his mother to tell her what he just learned. How could this young man overcome such a giant, with just a sling shot as a weapon. He was still surprised by the story, in the end David gave God all the glory. Sometimes Sunday school to him was boring but not this week.

Where could she be?

His mother was usually waiting for him to get out of class. His little brother's class was down the hallway. As he walked down the hallway, there were pictures of past pastors, Michael looked at every picture. Closer to his little brother's class were pictures of the ministers and deacons. He stared at his father's picture, maybe he would be there when he's older. Deciding, for God, he would be a soldier. Peeking in his brother's class he saw Isaac over his moms's shoulder, he didn’t look good  Michael's mother saw him, “Thank goodness you came here, we have to go, your brother doesn't feel well.” Michael nodded in understanding, kinda upset he wasn't going to spend time with his friends. Then he remembered the pretty girl, wondering if she would ever write back or if he would ever see her. His question, would she say yes?
