“The Fall”: Chapter Eight
Week 8
Trouble
Michael couldn't believe his dad was going to be the pastor of the church. Would he follow behind his father? Calvin asked his kids what they thought about his good news. Isaac yelled with joy, maybe not fully understanding but happy because everyone was full of happiness. Michael said, “My dad is going to be the pastor! I can't wait to tell all my friends.” His father responded, “Don't tell anybody until the pastor tells the church. Do you understand?”
“Yes sir.”
Michael's mother turned around looking at Michael saying, “This is not news to be bragging around the church. Do you understand me Michael?”
“Yes ma'am.”
The next day Michael packed his bible in his backpack to take to school. Throughout the day Michael was telling kids that his father was going to be a pastor. At lunch Michael tried to preach telling everyone who listened, the story of Samson and how his wife told the secrets of him to destroy the man. He also killed so many men with the jawbone of an ass. Some kids gasped that Michael said a bad word. He talked about Adam and Eve. Told the kids the downfall of men was from the woman. One of the girl's listening cried yelling at Michael that she didn't believe him before running away. Feeling good knowing he can also preach like his father. Before lunch was over a teacher came to get Michael. Following behind was the little girl. They went to the principal’s office. For some reason Michael knew he was in trouble. He was getting scared because he knew what would happen if the school called his parents. The girl was still crying, looking furious at Michael. They waited outside the office for the principal. Michael was wondering what he was in trouble for. The principal opened the door. She was a short lady with kindness in her eyes but everyone knew she didn't play. The teacher told the principal what was going on, about Michael’s preaching. Michael was surprised he was getting into trouble for preaching. The girl next to him was crying while she said he was preaching lies about girls being bad people. Dismissing the teacher and little girl before she talked to Michael. “What's going on?” She asked. He told her he was just preaching like his father who was going to be the pastor of their church. “What were you preaching about?” The principal asked Michael. With a smile he told her about Samson and Delilah also he talked about Adam and Eve. Those are two examples of how women were the fall of man. His principal didn't say anything just looking at Michael before she picked up the phone. “How are you doing today Mrs. Eve?” The room was quiet for a moment, Michael waiting for the principal to respond to his mom. “Yes, I have Michael in my office right now. Seems he has found himself in trouble today.” Michael knew he was going to get it for sure. “Of course but I would like you to come in so we can talk about the situation.” He huffed knowing everything was worse that she had to come. What did he do so wrong? “We'll be waiting on you.” Before hanging up the phone. “Michael, please wait outside for your mom to come.” He waited outside her office for what felt like a lifetime. What would his parents do to him, Michael thought. Teachers and students walked by giving Michael a look. He wondered why he was in so much trouble. After some time his mother came to the school. She looked furious at this point there was no talking to her. “Michael what did you do?” He honestly didn't know how to answer that question. She sat next to Michael then said, “We are going to get to the bottom of this.” He knew exactly what she meant. That's when the principal's door opened. “Hello, Mrs Eve, please come in.” They both got up and went into her office. Everyone sat still for a moment then the principal asked Michael's mother how she was doing. Answering, she's fine and wondered why Michael was in trouble.
